Gary Khoeng | DealStreetAsia | Cautious Optimism Amid 56% decline in Funding in H1 2023
The funding winter in Southeast Asia showed no signs of a thaw in the second quarter of this year. Despite a slight uptick relative to the previous quarter, both deal value and volume dropped year on year during the April-June period, according to the most recent report from DealStreetAsia – DATA VANTAGE.
Gary P. Khoeng, our partner at Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, who also oversees the Indonesian market, anticipates a reduction in deal volumes following macro headwinds and investor conservatism, which have been prevalent since 2022. Gary emphasizes the need for caution despite the nascent signs of optimism. He states, “In general, we are cautiously optimistic for the end of 2023 and 2024 because it appears that overall macro has somewhat ‘improved’ when compared to last year, although there could still be black swan events that may happen”.
To gain a deeper understanding of these market dynamics and to see what this could mean for Southeast Asia's financial future, we invite you to read the full article here.
