It truly takes a whole village to nurture successful women entrepreneurs. At Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India, we are committed to backing and supporting female founders. Our approach to finding and backing women entrepreneurs is unique— we cast our net wider and deeper to invest in the most promising ventures, whether they're led by women or men.
And it has worked well. We're proud to share that in our fourth fund, 35% of our portfolio companies were founded by women. This is noteworthy considering that in 2022, only 12.6% of equity funding went to women led companies in Southeast Asia and 16% in India. We also build a close relationship with our female founders - it gives us great joy to help them succeed on their entrepreneurial journey, be it helping them with fundraising or bringing in the next key hire. We would like to thank our female founders for the opportunity to invest in their visions and ventures.
Additionally, three out of our eight partners are women and nearly 40% of our team is female. So, to commemorate International Women's Day (or month), we are pleased to invite you to join us at two special events with our partners, Google Cloud, ACE.SG (Action Community for Entrepreneurship), BLOCK71 Singapore, with the aim to bring together women in tech to challenge conventional thinking, be inspired and experience breakthroughs in 2024.
On our Hard Truths by Vertex podcast (ranked top 5 in the Entrepreneurship podcasts in Singapore), we will share the inspirational stories of three of our female founders across Southeast Asia and India. The first two of these amazing conversations featured Roshni Mahtani Cheung, Founder and Group CEO of The Parentinc, Southeast Asia’s largest parenting community as well as Guan Dian, Cofounder, CMO and APAC GM of Patsnap, a global patent and innovation database. Their stories showcase their amazing resilience and offer invaluable insights that I’m sure you will appreciate and enjoy - tune in here.
Achitha Jacob , founder of Proactive For Her will share her story with us next week. Her venture is a first-of-its-kind company that exclusively focuses on women's health in India. Follow us here for the upcoming episode.
