𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 VVSEAI 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺: Andri Wardhani

We're excited to share our "𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 VVSEAI 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺" series to introduce the wonderful, multi-faceted talent we have in the Vertex Ventures SEA & India! For the month of June, we would like to introduce our colleague Andri Wardhani based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

1. What did you do before Vertex and what did you study?

I have been working in the Venture Capital / private investments sector since 2018. Right before I joined Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia, I worked for a US-based global fund known as Alpha Wave Global that handles late-stage tech investments as well as private equity. During my stint there, I specialised in fintechs and retail sectors. I handled Southeast Asia investments and portfolio, as well as deals and portfolio of certain sectors based in India and China.

I’m actually trained as a lawyer and gained my degree from the University of Indonesia. I practised Corporate Law at Allen & Overy LLP (Jakarta Office), specifically in their M&A and Financing practice groups, for a few years before transitioning over to VC.

2. What is one thing you most enjoy about working at Vertex SEA & India?

One thing I really appreciate about working at Vertex Ventures SEA & India is our regional focus. Unlike a global fund that tries to apply a one-size-fits-all approach, we can deeply understand the unique nuances of each market—from India to Indonesia. This localized knowledge allows us to tailor our investment strategies and support our portfolio companies effectively. Plus, being part of the larger Vertex network means we can leverage expertise from other regions when needed.

3. Tell us something we didn't know that you do outside of work.

I’m an avid diver and spend most of my free time diving whenever possible - even if it means a rushed trip to Bali or Thousand Islands over the weekend for just one day of diving. I am training to be a Technical diver with the goal of becoming a full Cave Diver by next year. There are lots of underwater cave systems across Indonesia, especially in Sulawesi, still unexplored. Many divers from abroad as well as locally are hoping to be the first to create maps for these cave systems. Hopefully, I’ll get to do that as well. Fingers crossed!
